Singer-songwriter, pianist and producer Andi Fins graces us with dreamy glockenspiels, groovy bass and serene but minimalistic guitar in his latest single You Need A Friend – a subtle tribute to real friendships and authentic connections.
You Need A Friend opens with innocent electric-sounding glockenspiels, cozy bass and minimalist melody guitar strumming unhurriedly in the background. The track starts as it means to go on by the time Andi Fins calmly sings the laid-back verses.
The choruses are peppered with slinky drum fills, warm almost retro style synth chords, and cool easygoing harmonies – all making for a super chill and relaxed affair, filled with effortless tranquility you could melt into your armchair too after a long hard day.
Despite its lo-fi sound and carefree vibe, after paying more attention to the lyrics a more serious and somewhat ominous tone comes through. Speaking of robots, the internet and what is real in conjunction with a call for true friendship, lyrics such as those below can only lead one to assume Andi is paying homage to real friends and authentic relationships in an era fraught with virtual realities and digital connections.
The internet is dead
I’m glad to see, I’m glad to see
I’m glad to see you again
Cause I need a friend
Andi shows us this isn’t just a track to unwind to, but an honest reflection and critique of our machine dependent, digitally obsessed world – perhaps something we are all subconsciously aware of, and perhaps yearning to separate from. You Need A Friend is a beautiful musical expression of this notion…check it out below!
