Cesco’s ‘The Francesco EP’: a smooth and bassy eardrum workout to provide that extra bounce this spring

ON ROTATION: Cesco ‘The Francesco EP’

For people who like…garage, UKG, bass.

Coming straight after his previous release on Bristol based Pineapple Records, The Anticipate EP; we have more from Cesco who is riding a wave of success currently with recent releases on Alix Perez’s 1985 imprint.

Known for Cesco and Chums (on Pineapple) and The Rattler (1985), he has kept his latest EP solid heavyweight bass pressure! Working with the likes of Emz, Douvelle19, and Sylla they’ve crafted epic bass music for the dance floor across all three tracks on this release.

Pretty and Plump is my standout from this release, combining fast flows from Emz – whose work can be heard on the anthemic Ready for Dem by Watch The Ride. This London come Bristol grime MC tells us all about loving girls as the bass bubbles along and you just can’t help but bop about.

A tidy and sharp 2 step-esque drum beat begins the track, intro working with the odd punctuating bass note underneath the rolling choppy drums. The “Francesco” vocal which is stamped into his work like an American super producer with a hit record builds up.

The words “pretty and slim” break into the drum beats. This is where Emz writes about variety being the spice of life and the things he loves…rock, rap, and when a bass line wobbles and thumps. The breaks continue with low rumbling bass lines finding space between the vocals, with the claps blending together to make a tear-out dance floor HIT.

The message from this track is “keep it light”, and the outro recycles the intro choppy break while filling every single note with slabs of deep sub bass. Eerie FX is pitched up and stereoscopic delayed reverb brings an eardrum workout session.

Rising, sweeping, and panning from left to right the eerie stab sounds keep me interested; add more energy to fill in the space left by the absence of vocals from Emz. The track ends with more slabs of deep sub bass bouncing around the outro the track.
