Bristolian lone ranger EINSAM hits us with Motivation, an eclectic and technically gifted piece of music telling a story of solitude and self-reflection…through blissful melodies, sophisticated harmonies and tasteful instrumentation.
EINSAM – which means solitary in German, direct translation “onesome” – has just dropped his latest EP Actionism this autumn. EINSAM comprises solo songwriter and producer Sam Jackson, originally from Bristol UK; telling his solitary story (as we can only assume) of three years living in Vienna.
Straight away the lyrics “I came to meet myself” paint a independent and introverted picture, accompanied by ambient and ethereal synths and subtle drums that sound like either toms or an off-snare.
It’s not long before the song really opens up both instrumentally and lyrically with a climatic chorus; rhythmic snares and kicks, an intriguing synth bass merged with a bitcrushed guitar, and some pretty motivating and uplifting lyrics about picking yourself up and moving forwards.
I can do nothing but relate to Sam’s expressions of determination and self-reliance, while I’m admiring the blend of bass synth and guitar overlapped on separate lines of his production suit – which initially drew me in from the very first listen! Sam tells us how he created this brilliant specific piece of production…
“It started out as a kind of RnB instrumental for a singer friend, but I decided to keep it back and build it into this version.”
There’s such a contemplative and introspective beauty to this song, that it makes me want to explore my introverted side, and fills me with a warm comfortable feeling of one’s own company. Not to mention being a masterful display of Sam’s superb production skills.
