ON ROTATION: AILS & Annie Hill Remixes of Scanners

For ravers of…techno, hard-tech, peaktime

With HAUTBOXx’s Autumn/Winter remix series well underway, there’s already some dancefloor gems gracing the Beatport algorithms. Each with their own stamp, while all brimming with booming bass, modular melodies and thumping drum loops; here’s our 2 best picks from both remix EPs so far…

AILS Remix

One of the first to drop, AILS certainly kicks things off to a powerful start. Having only been releasing music since 2022, this relatively new to the scene Milanese producer is certainly giving us reason to take him seriously as a hard-techno artist.

I would say his remix of ‘Scanners’ is perhaps the hardest and filthiest out of the lot, as heavy kick drums boom alongside thoroughly distorted bass synth patterns taken from the original; AILS really puts his own stamp on this banger.

When the track reaches its climax about half-way through, the sounds that emanate are made for a big-room hard-tech venue, and as I nod my head I envision it absolutely going off on the dancefloor as futuristic sounds are complimented by echoey bass (making it sound like I’m already in the club).

As this progressive remix calms towards the end, I can’t help but feel excited for what AILS might bring next. If you want to spin a sure-fire banger most ravers won’t have heard, go get this on Beatport!

Annie Hill Remix

Right from the get go the drums couldn’t get any heavier, showing that Finnish born, Milan based producer Annie Hill is somewhat of an expert at wrapping up kick-drums in lots of cushy 808. This serves as a bold reminder of why this co-founder of WAE Music Group is climbing the techno ranks thick and fast.

As the track moves forward, it’s already feeling very upbeat and fine-tuned. Although I certainly wouldn’t call this “radio friendly” in terms of commercial radio, perhaps this would be a safe bet to play out to garner foolproof crowd responses and mass appeal among the techno community.

Also a very progressive one, following a mid-way breakdown that works as a big anticipation builder (remember the guaranteed crowd reactions we mentioned), an awesome drop hits with the rhythm sections getting a bit busier and more sophisticated.

We love it. Well done Annie for this brilliantly percussive and lively take on ‘Scanners’!

With the two EPs released so far marking somewhat of a sub-genre split from smoother 135 (orange) to the more raw 140 (noir) to come; expect some very bold, intense and high-profile remixes forthcoming, in-part from a techno icon. Watch this space and SUBSCRIBE to be first in the know!
