Hollow Profit brings far from hollow lyricism in his east-coast influenced single ‘Birds & Bullets’ featuring NY’s finest Ben Beal

Single Review: Hollow Profit feat Ben Beal ‘Birds & Bullets’

For people who like…east-coast rap, hip hop, 90s rap

Minnesota based rapper Hollow Profit waves the flag for dense lyricism and jazzy east-coast inspired production in his latest single with Ben Beal and Crimson Dot Birds & Bullets – part of his fully loaded and overflowing album CUIBONO? that dropped this Autumn.

Bouncy two-tone cords begin, in what’s reminiscent of a Mos Def or Wu-Tang b-side – cementing a 90s foundation throughout the track. New York (easily discernable from his accent) rapper Ben Beal chimes in with dense lyrics expressing urban narratives and tales of espionage.

Any fans of golden-era New York hip hop are sure to love this, with the beat a straight up 90s text-book production. I can’t help but be pleased with the fact this kind of hip hop still exists, as the lyrics fit tightly but comfortably within the head-nodding beat.

Not being longer than 2 minutes and with no chorus, this could feel like somewhat of an interlude skit within the jam-packed CUIBONO? before experiencing the full 17 track album – that said the quality of lyricism and instrumentals show us this is definitely more than just a simple interlude in the album.

Hollow Profits

Perhaps less of an interlude skit and more of a gateway track to CUIBONO? itself, as being very much a fan of this type of rap myself I’m definitely leaving a mental note to check out the rest of the album.

Hollow Profit, Crimson Dot and Ben Beal show us, in no uncertain terms, that classic jazzy New York rap will never die; and if you agree with that sentiment, you’ll probably wanna check this out below!
