For people who like…drum and bass, neurofunk, electronic.

Originally from Russia and now based in Montenegro, Ilya Romanenkov and Michael Proskurin’s latest single arrived via Moscow label Elephant Trunk. I’ll be totally honest, I’d never heard of them, but I have this rule that I must listen to everything that gets sent to me – mostly because when I have skipped bits I’ve missed some amazing tracks.

The intro begins with dull muffled piano chords and melodic strokes that are washed over with tons of reverb, and what sounds like waves from the sea crashing against rocks on a crisp, breezy morning.

Listen carefully and you can pick up remnants of some vocal, but it’s faint and you have to really want to hear it. The catchy bouncy chords begin to move to the middle of the mix, and the slight drums keep the tune moving along as I work through the intro, which adds energy through each 16 bar section.

Vocals start to drop in and out with the FX building ever more energy and excitement to the track, whilst I wait for the breaks to take centre stage. But surprisingly the break is more subtle and light drums filter over the piano chords and vocal mix, rising until the “Bad Day” vocal pokes over the musical smorgasbord.

All the while a rolling bassline is building and building until it reaches a crescendo of vocals and piano chords moving into the actual drop, and then it’s dancefloor carnage time. I’ll be keeping an eye on these artists and label from now on…finding golden nuggets in my inbox.

Daddy’s Rating: Think an old Wilkinson record fused with some eastern flavour and a really catchy hook.
