Techno heads shouldn’t stay away from Phil Able’s vigorous thumpfest ‘Stay Away from the Techno’, but easy beat enthusiasts should proceed with caution
With somewhat of an ironic title, Phil Able’s dark techno banger both mocks mainstream nightclub promoters, while serving a stark warning to pop fans, or anyone that can’t handle progressive kick-drum heavy beats…STAY AWAY.
Should you be ready for a dark techno pounding bass heavy stonker, you’ve come to the right place. There’s no f***king about with this one, a relentlessly heavy kick drum thumps in from the very beginning, giving you a vivid idea of the vibes to come.
With acidic industrial tones a plenty from the outset, the intro sample on reveals what we can assume is the inspiration for the track, with Phil himself ending the story-telling sample saying “You Gotta Stay Away from the Techno” before a cascade into more bassy pulsations, high intensity kicks and distorted synth melodies.
If you don’t like techno, you’re probably best taking his advice and staying away, this extreme banger doesn’t give much room for relaxation. Of course that’s the whole point, with Phil (an avid nightclub DJ playing out, you guessed it, hard house and techno selections) mocking conventional nightclub managers terrified of putting on nights that may explore anything other than the same old dross R&B, pop or tacky EDM.
But to all techno enthusiasts, do the opposite of what the title says; go and listen and feel the full force of this release from this up and coming producer. After all, where would the underground club scene be if there weren’t producers like Phil Able…probably in a sad state of affairs.
Everyone’s entitled to their tastes and opinions, but I have to say I do admire music that goes against the grain, and quite frankly pushes to the extremes. With all the thumping bass and contrasting high-end synth notes of this progressive club banger, it fits right at home in a dark underground club, and certainly not the types of clubs with promoters or managers it’s designed to deter. Long live the underground!
