Sound SelectionThe Worst is Over by Robbie Fitzsimmons

For people who like…alt pop, rock, classical

With its starry theme and vivacity, the best is certainly not over with regards to Robbie’s unrelenting 2024 release schedule. Latest single The Worst is Over is a first-rate illustration of his writing, composition, and performative abilities.

Robbie hits notes all over the spectrum, with his vocals making for quite an unconventional start to the song. Of course this wouldn’t be a Robbie Fitzsimmons number without a stellar accompaniment on the piano; backed up by twilight style synth pads and heavy distortion at times, creating an otherworldly theme.

'The Worst is Over' Cover Art

This cosmic sound makes more sense after looking at the cover art, which paints a picture of light and dark energies colliding. With the bass thumping in the background, his powerful melodic outbursts, and even a cowbell for good measure; this is nothing short of a vivacious piece of eclectic music.

There is a lot going on in this track, demonstrating Robbie’s writing and composition skills are really second to none – supported by Kyrian Bobeerian, Honey Larochelle, and Jesselynn Desmond. No wonder he co-wrote a song on Lana Del Ray’s Ultra Violence album, as well as being involved with it in other ways. It would be a huge surprise if no mainstream music industry professionals were interested in Robbie’s creative skills.

Towards the end Robbie’s echoey singing is accompanied by funky honky-tonk style strumming that simply adds to the dynamic and bold sound of this song. The Worst is Over is a loud and brilliantly carried-away introduction to the self-titled EP. And It’s great to see an independent artist with skills desired by mainstream musicians have complete creative freedom to write and perform something truly attention grabbing and original.

Stay tuned for his long-awaited full debut album coming May 2024!
